Skins
birch bark, zippers, lace, thread, bricks, rope, bullies
5'x5'x10'

Suspended through a network of ropes and pulleys, the trees hang poised in a balance between the weight of the bricks and the husks of birch trees. Created through the act of skinning and gathering bark, the trees were made with the intention of recreating the forest around my childhood home. When I constructed these trees, through necessity, I had to make them in such a way that they could be easily dismantled and carried with me. At that time, I was very nomadic in my life and had no car so everything I owned needed to be easily moved. The work became not just a reflection of a place in my memory and my desire to recreate it but also the circumstances of my life.
